Free Saturday Lunchtime Recitals
In the centre of Warrington
and the bi-annual
WARRINGTON COMPETITION FOR YOUNG MUSICIANS
The Competition has been running since 1998 and has featured several young musicians who have made music their career. For example, pianist James Willshire formerly from Culcheth has just won an award from Making Music that will provide him with bookings for solo recitals throughout the country.
Flautist Laura Lucas from Appleton has just won the solo Wind Finals of one of this country’s most prestigious competitions and will compete for the overall 1st Prize and Gold Medal worth £5000 (together with major publicity) on 19th May. The 2006 winner, Paul Duffy, is already the Principal Soprano Cornet Player with Black Dyke Band.
The Finals of the 2008 Competition were held on Sunday 16th March 2008 at Arley Hall.
The Prizes in the Lower Division were awarded as follows:

The Prizes in the Upper Division were awarded as follows:

3rd Prize Sarah Lewis (violin)
Morag Leech Trophy Winner Elizabeth Lawton (flute)
The next Competition will be held in 2010
