About

GENERAL BACKGROUND SUMMARY

Warrington Arts Council Initiative for the Development of Music - known as WACIDOM - was formed in 1994 to find ways to support and encourage music-making in the Warrington and surrounding area.
It subsequently funded several series of recitals at various venues in Warrington to provide a platform for musicians of all levels of ability - but especially young musicians.

More recently, WACIDOM has concentrated on two areas:

'The Warrington Competition for Young Musicians' has been held bi-annually since 1998. Prizes are awarded to the finalists of both the Lower Division (up to Grade 6) and the Upper Division (Grade 7 upwards). All entrants to the heats receive a short master-class from a professional adjudicator and a written appraisal. In 2004, the Competition was expanded to accept entries from young musicians under the age of 19 years living in the “WA” postal area and has now been further expanded to accept entries from applicants living in the CW and CH post code areas.

The 2000 Winner is freelancing with London Orchestras and is a member of The Nephele Ensemble.

Winners of the three later Competitions are respectively studying at the Royal College of Music; medicine at Cambridge; and studying Music Technology at Salford University.
